PROMOTEWISE
The recent study by Grant Thornton states that India is amongst the 3rdlowest ranking country with women in leadership roles, with 41% of business with no women in management positions. When an equal opportunity for growth and promotion is missing in an organization, retention does become a glaring issue.
How could you make this better?
-
Leverage female or female-led employee resource groups (ERGs) as an opportunity to grow, develop and learn from a gender diverse talent group
-
Mentoring programs are a great way to help new and longer-term employees build close working relationships
-
Implement a culture of learning that encourages curiosity and knowledge sharing, which in turn leads to better business outcomes
-
Conduct regular surveys that give employees a chance to give feedback to their managers on issues related to gender diversity and inclusive working conditions and taking actionable steps to curtail the issues
-
Invest in scholarships and grants to promote training opportunities among female employees to give them an edge to reach leadership positions e.g. Etsy’s “Hacker Grants”.
-
Increase/Implement maternity and paternity leaves for employees helps build confidence among employees toward the organisation
-
Invest in mitigating unconscious biases and be more inclusive in the evaluation of candidates, promotions, and succession planning
